Iran's ambassador to Spain, Reza Zabib, confirmed in an interview with Europe Press that the protests the country had witnessed were "the biggest terrorist act ever in Iran" and attributed the killing of more than 3,000 people to the actions of foreign-backed groups.

The authorities have confirmed that over 3,000 people have died in the protests. Would you define it as the worst repression in recent years in Iran?

To understand the situation, we must distinguish three parts of what happened.The first corresponds to the first three days, when there were only limited protests, mostly from the bazaar and the private economic sector, due to high inflation and the devaluation of the national currency.Practically, it ended with the high authorities sitting down to talk with big businessmen.

Between January 1 and 8, we faced another wave where more people took part in demonstrations not in the capital but in two to three small towns, which unfortunately led to violent clashes.Nevertheless, the security forces tolerated it like everywhere in the world, even though they suffered losses.

However, the situation changed completely on January 8, 9 and 10. We are dealing with the use and distribution of weapons. These terrorist groups shot people indiscriminately, who have publicly admitted their responsibility and said that their members died on the ground. I should say that both the American and Israeli forces have publicly announced that they are on the ground;Israelis are on the ground, as are many foreign embassies.

We faced a very violent situation in which not only the police but also some protesters were mutilated, brutally killed, hanged and burnt.They burned nurses in hospitals.They burnt the policeman's body.He was very violent.The police had to confront him on the 9th and 10th, not the first day, the 8th.

I can say with absolute certainty that there is no punishment or sanction for civil protests.No one is arrested for peaceful protest.Two years ago we faced huge protests;there were arrests, but then 98 or 99% were released without trial.No one is arrested for peaceful protest and if anyone was arrested by mistake, they would be released.2000 innocent people, who burned public and private property, must be brought to justice.

I can give alarming figures: 305 ambulances and public buses, 250 bus stops, 24 gas stations, 700 private companies, 800 private vehicles, 300 private homes;everything was burned or destroyed.750 bank offices, 680 public buildings, 750 police vehicles, 200 schools, 440 mosques, dozens of libraries.Those who committed these heinous crimes will be brought to justice according to international standards.
