The Aragonese mountain skiers started the season well in the first two rounds of the 2026 Spanish Cup, held this weekend in the Espot ski resort (Lérida).The member of the Aragonese National Team and 2025 champion, Daniel Izquierdo Alonso, of the Peña Guara Mountain Club, won the bronze medal in the senior category in the vertical test.In the U16 category, Iago Iglesias Delgado, member of GTEMA and member of the Montañeras Adebán Club, proved who is one of the best young people in the discipline, with double silver, in the sprint and vertical.Moreover, between the members of the National Team and other Aragonese participants, they collected another eleven medals in the veteran subcategories.

The main news of this season is that the name of the 2026 Spanish Alpine Ski Cup has been expanded from four to six sports, thus expanding the scope of the sport in its first year as an Olympic discipline.The first two competitions of this weekend were organized by FEDME and Espot Esqui Club Valls d'Éneu, in which more than a hundred athletes took part.Both in terms of the total number of participants and the number of female athletes, the Aragonese delegation was the second largest at the championships, a testament to the excellent grassroots work and growth of Skimo in the community.

In the previous category, the podiums stood in various experienced sub-categories.Among the members of the Aragonese national team, Oscar Díaz Sánchez, from the Suburban Athletico Club, and Luis Rio Naia, from the Exea Mountain Club, reached the first two places in the M55.For their part, Miguel Caballero Ortega and Alberto Miron Encinar were first and second in the M40;and Raul Lopez Lopez, third in the M45;All three are members of the Guardia Civil Mountain Club.

On Sunday there were even more medals in the vertical race, with Daniel Izquierdo taking bronze in the absolute category, less than a minute and a half behind the winner.The Peña Guerra athlete had already started last year winning silver in the same way and ended up winning gold in the 2025 Spanish Cup. He also won three medals in the Spanish Championship;record for which he was named best male athlete of 2025 at the FAM Mountain Dinner.
