Sports editorial, October 25 (EFE).- The World Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships took place in Jakarta (Indonesia) this Saturday, with Japanese Daiki Hashimoto and Russian Angelina Melnikova as the big winners and China landing the most medals, seven, three of them gold.
While in the previous 2023 championships held in Antwerp (Belgium), the United States dominated the medal table with 11 medals, four of which were gold, this time the maximum went to China with three places, one silver and three bronze.
Behind them were Japan and the United States with five metals - two gold - two gold and Great Britain, the same number, but only one place.
Apart from notable absences such as America's Simone Biles and Brazil's Rebecca Andrade, after an Olympic year the world championships left a legacy of veto power to Israel, whose gymnasts were denied visas by Indonesian authorities to protest the war in the Gaza Strip.
In the men's category, Jakarta defeated Tokyo Olympic champion Hashimoto, who claimed his third consecutive all-around title in the all-around competition.
Hashimoto, 24, defeated China's Boheng Zhang, the champion at the 2021 Kitakyushu (Japan) World Championships, and also took silver on the stable bar, which he lost to American Brody Malone.
Another man at the World Cup was Carlos Yolo of the Philippines, who won two gold medals at the Paris Games and was declared champion in calt and won a bronze medal.
Chinese Jingyuan Zhou, champion of the Paris Games, rose to the podium in the same category on parallel bars, American Donnell Whittenburg on rings.
The list was completed by the Chinese Hong Yanming with triumph on the pommel horse and the British Jake Jarman on the floor, who replaced the Israeli Artem Dolgopyat on the throne, the champion of Antwerp and was unable to compete due to the ban on gymnasts from his country.
In the women's category, Melnikova became the world gymnastics champion again four years later, after Russian athletes were banned from competing due to the war against Ukraine.American Lian Wong was second and Chinese Zhan Qing was third.
Melnikova, 25, reached the tile around 2023, the winner in 2023, and Andrade, and Andrade, Andrade, Andrade, Andrade, and Andrade, in the man, who won Liverpool (United Kingdom) in the list of achievements.
Russia added two more medals, making it the most successful of the World Cups. She repeated the gold in the colt and was silver in the asymmetrical, behind Algerian Nemour Kaylia, who in turn came second in the fixed bar behind Zhan Qingying.
On the floor, the victory went to Aiko Sugihara of Japan, also bronze on the standing bar.
Unlike previous editions, there were no team events at the Jakarta World Championships due to the International Athletics Federation's decision to change the calendar of the Olympic cycle leading up to the 2028 Los Angeles Games.
The World Cup will be held in Rotterdam (Netherlands) from October 17 to 25 next year.
